How do you recognize someone to be a true artist ? From my point a view, he must be humble. Clapton is the kind of guy who is completely devoted and committed to his music. Some say that he is at his best when not being the main star on stage. This statement is a bit harsh for him but the idea is very interesting. We can hear him along with several artists and he knows how to step in the shadow and just be one of the best musician there is.

On this recording, he is the perfect hand to go along with one of the best blues performer ever : Howling Wolf.

Hundreds of time I have listened to this version of Texas Flood. I always get goosebumps.

I am also always amazed to realize that this is maybe the earlier recording of SRV we have and that he already has this incredible touch, this feeling of blues. This is actually my favorite version of Texas Flood. I hope you'll enjoy it.

Some will say that I am obsessed with Eric Clapton. That is indeed true. And what I find to be the most incredible about his music is what was done in the beginning of his career, between the mid-60s and the early 70s : Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith & Derek and the Dominoes.

I can honestly say that the Layla album is my favourite among everything else. But now, let just focus on this wonderful song.

Here, we will deal with blues and all music types born from the blues, all the songs which touch my heart and embark me on an journey.

This is my editorial choice to speak english. First because it is a good exercise, but also because blues is so ridiculous when sung in french... So I figured it will be much better like this. Of course, although it is not the prime purpose, if it can touch more people like this, I will be glad. The more, the merrier...

For this first episode, I won't be able to escape the ultimate tribute to Mister Robert Johnson, in the memory of whom this blog is dedicated, as a few would have guessed when seeing the name of the blog.

Mister Johnson, your music has inspired almost every musician of the twentieth century and will continue to do so for ages. I discovered your music thanks to the incredible work of Eric Clapton who has an utmost respect for your work and who takes blues very seriously - as I imagine it should be.

I will be speaking a lot about Eric Clapton's works on this blog. He's my man. Through his music, you can visit all of the major influences of blues music, which he has studied once again religiously.

So to make it short for the first article, I will finish by a video of God performing Robert Johnson's song Me and the Devil. It is not the one I would have hoped to find, that is to say the acoustic version of Sessions for Robert J, which dvd I can only beg you to buy.
